Oh the night is my world…

Sunday Girl is probably in the same vein as a lot of what you’ll find on stronglikemusic. Taking her name from the 1979 Blondie song, former model Jade Williams offers ethereal vocals over an indie pop sound, and puts out a good cover here and there. Well, actually, mostly covers. Whatever, this boy knows what he likes. Her trance-y cover of Love You More (which I thiiiink was originally by Steps?) is good… and while I’m sort of partial to the piano and […]

Dancing dancing on my tongue…

October 20, 2011 by MD

I just stumbled across this video for the song Parix by the Dutch band When Saints Go Machine. Beautiful. (Be sure to watch to the end.) I know very little about the band, but at first listen his voice reminds me a little of Antony. Add Ends is bizarre, but also really cool. I’ll research them a little more and follow up after midterms… When Saints Go Machine – Parix

let this part of me remember how lovely we were…

Watch this video and try telling me you don’t want to be her best friend. Go ahead, just try. I love Lucy Rose. She has a delicate voice, melancholy yet hopeful sound, and her simple honest lyrics always seem to resonate. Scar (above) and Middle of the Bed are out as singles on iTunes, and she’s made the (excellent) songs First and Night Bus available for free download through her website, but my personal favorites are the as-yet unreleased Bikes and […]

I wish nothing but the best for you…

In case you haven’t heard, the lovely Adele has had to cancel her tour due to vocal cord hemorrhaging. Sorry, lady. Wishing you a speedy recovery. To tide us over, here’s a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s timeless I Can’t Make You Love Me (although I still think nothing beats the original), a STOMPING disco-dancey Villa remix of Rolling in the Deep, and a rock-out version of Someone Like You that has garnered surprisingly little attention, maybe due to the low profile […]

I’m gonna find a way to say it…

October 10, 2011 by MD

Does anyone remember Lamb? Producer Andy Barlow (swoon) and singer-songwriter Lou Rhodes write really beautiful, often uplifting songs that occasionally border on saccharine, but they’re so good I can’t help but love them. It probably wouldn’t kill me to listen to something completely devoid of angst once in a while, right? They are best known for the songs Gorecki, which was used by Baz Luhrmann in Moulin Rouge, and Heaven, which was in Six Feet Under (still my favorite show ever). […]
